Introducing: Moira
It’s just one week until all Hallows eve, which seems to be an appropriate time to re-kindle the flame of this blog. After all, my first and last posts with Eve (heavy sigh) fell on Halloween. This blog has sat, idle and neglected, for far too long, it’s time to resume normal transmission – “normal” being a relative term, after all, this is a blog written by a doll-obsessed adult. Although if the numbers, pre-move from WordPress, were any indicator – I’m far from alone.
Hello, fellow weirdos, and welcome back.
I’m not about to lie and tell you that I don’t miss Eve & her friends; I absolutely do, there’s no question about it. At the same time, I know that, in order to continue blogging, I need to move on. I think this newer character might somehow be related to Eve or one of her friends; that way I can make reference to Eve & hopefully it won’t be too weird. Will it? If it will, let me know in the comments and I’ll refrain. The last thing I want to do is rub salt in the wound (for myself or anyone else).
May I introduce you to Moira:
Moira is yet another stunning creation by Betty of All the Little Dolls – I love her dolls; they’re lifelike, they’re beautiful, and you can tell she just pours her heart and soul into each and every lovely doll. So, thank you, Betty, for helping me re-invigorate my hobby blog. I’m excited to get back to it.
The Spooktacular bit about this doll is that not only is she a custom repaint, she’s also a sort of Frankenstein’s Monster (or would that be Playscale Enthusiast’s Monster? Frankenstein was actually the doctor’s name, not the monster’s); she’s several dolls, combined into one (que horror music).
*She has the head of a curvy, made to move Barbie doll, which has obviously been repainted. Why? Nah, wrong question, why not?
Repainting the dolls gives them a unique look. There will never be another doll that looks exactly like her, because no artist has exactly the same technique. She may look similarly, but then again, so do people – I mix up Bryce Dallas Howard and Jessica Chastain, and I know I’m not alone in that.
*The hands of a Fashion Royalty doll.
I’m uncertain which specific doll they originated from; when I ordered them, I ordered “multi-pack 12” fashion royalty replacement hands” from Ebay, then just selected the pair that fit her best. Why? Well, I made a post about it here, but the TL;DR version is because they’re more delicate and expressive than the generic made-to-move hands.
I promise, if Barbie comes out with a line of hands in different poses for these dolls that are reasonably priced, I will absolutely pounce. Especially if they had different colored nails (hint hint, Mattel).
*Her body is that of a curvy, made to move doll.
I mentioned, several times, on the original blog that I was hoping they’d come out with a curvy, made to move barbie. I have to say “thank you” to the other doll enthusiasts out there who pushed for this. As a result of their efforts, there are currently two curvy Barbies with the articulation of the yoga/made to move line. Both the pink haired dancing Barbie and this Strawberry Blonde one. But this doll’s figure, you may have noticed, isn’t quite the same, you’re not wrong…
*Lastly, her bust has been increased with the “Green Stuff” that most miniature/tabletop roleplayers have experience with – I’ll post a brief tutorial shortly if that’s of any interest to anyone.
Why on earth would I do this? Well, I’m a curvier girl myself and, when you have such a large backside and thick thighs, as this doll does – I’m not complaining, I love both! – you may also have a larger fat deposit on your bust. I didn’t make her obscene or anything like that, just upped her cup size slightly. I wasn’t sure if I should add any padding to her tummy or not, because while realistic, I’d still like her to be able to wear non-custom clothes from time to time.
And that, dear readers, is Moira – aka Playscale Enthusiast’s Monster.
Welcome back, and I hope your all hallows eve is delightfully memorable.
