Barbie In Bangkok
I’ve lamented the lack of doll options locally many times, probably too many really. I rely heavily on online shopping, but there’s nothing quite like getting to see an item – whether it’s a piece of clothing or a doll – in person to make sure it’s what you want. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’d prefer to avoid buyer’s remorse.
When we arrived in Bangkok, I made it a personal mission to pop into the toy sections and hunt for Barbie.
Oh. My. Goodness!
The shopping centers of Bangkok delivered.
Again and again!
There are so many dolls, most of which I’d never seen in person before. Now, of course, the challenge: which ones am I bringing home? I’d love to be able to say “all of them”, but alas, I have one suitcase.
I left extra room, but not quite enough to pack an entire Barbie section into. I could mail them to myself, but avoiding international shipping and VAT is why I’m shopping in person in the first place.
Even the MBK center delivered with some knock-offs, one of which caught my eye. Sadly, the vendor tried to quadruple the listed price (on the doll’s back, under the plastic) and became irate when I told him the labelled price. It was very nearly a scene (on his end).
The experience further soured me to the MBK center and I ended up sticking to official Barbie in the Siam and Central shopping centers instead. I got several Ken fashion packs for Logan and these are the lovely creatures I’ll be bringing home with me:
I’ll do a review of them once I’m home again.
This post is going up the day we arrive in Denmark, I’ll likely be fighting off jet lag. I’ll have the last few posts of the Dolly Parton challenge series up in the near future and yes, I have a lot more pictures of Moira exploring bits of Thailand. I just have limited access to them at the moment, what with everything being packed.
Thanks for stopping in and I’ll see you soon.
