Poppy Parker Doll Review
You saw her standing in the background of the photos with my Ginger Gilroy doll and you may have already guessed that yes, I ordered the “Friend or Foe” gift set that came with both dolls. While I’ll likely have her repainted (I can actually hear people sharpening their pitchforks now), I thought I’d go ahead and give her a review befitting such an iconic doll. She has, after all, been a doll crush of mine for quite some time: Poppy Parker.
(All pictures from this point on are my own)
Here’s what Integrity Toys had to say about this gorgeous gal, who celebrated her 10 year anniversary last year:
”New York is a two-hour plane ride from the Midwest, but for 1960s teenager Poppy Parker, it might as well be in a different universe. She has traded hanging at the local malt shop and school dances for the glamorous life of a teenage fashion model in the Big Apple Poppy Parker is a 12.5-inch tall articulated vinyl fashion doll with fully rooted hair. Let’s start off her ensemble, shall we?:
Poppy comes wearing a pretty, lavender cocktail dress. Again, much like with Ginger’s bubble dress, the style is very old Hollywood glam and I have no complaints. It is well made with a soft fabric that feels like satin, the full skirt is tulle. In a word, it’s charming.
She’s also sporting coordinated pumps. I’d love to be able to sing their praises, but these heels drove me to the brink of insanity. They come with an ankle strap that, when loosened enough to slip the foot through, pops open and, after nearly twenty minutes of fighting, I wasn’t able to close it again. My husband, who actually paints and shapes miniatures (no shaky hands) was unable to get them on her, either. I think I may have to find a lavender ribbon and fake it if I want any dolls to wear them. They are, however, sturdy which is great.
The clutch bag is adorned with a pearl, a very nice touch.
For those that want to go all out, she also comes with a satin wrap and a pair of opera-length white gloves which are the same white-painted replacement hands with slip of fabric for the arm Ginger came with.
With regards to her jewelry set, Integrity Toys has done something I’ve been begging Mattel to do for ages: they’ve made it of metal. Finally!
The pieces are a little heavier, sure, but they’re also very shiny and much more durable than the earrings that Barbie usually comes with. Thank you for listening, Integrity Toys.
The doll herself has the same body and thus height, bust, waist, and articulation as her frenemy, Ginger, so feel free to check that post for details.
Poppy has always had a very pretty face with sensual full lips and long lashes. She looks done up for a night on the town, though her makeup is still tasteful.
I decided to comb her hair out and discovered, much to my delight, that it’s not only quite long, but also has some gorgeous curls. I think they’ve done a wonderful job on the hair with these two dolls. It’s full, but not so much that it’s “too full”. I tend to thin my doll’s hair slightly, and I don't feel the need with either of these lovely creatures.
Lastly, she not only has a manicure, but a pedicure as well in a delicate pink:
Thanks for stopping in and I’ll see you next time 😊
