Dollysphere News
Hi folks,
Sad news from the dollysphere. It looks like the third wave of the BMR1959 dolls have been cancelled.
Sigh. Really, Mattel?
The BMR1959 dolls are amazing. The dolls themselves are well-made, fully articulated, detailed, beautifully finished, and they come in a variety of skin tones and body shapes. A+ for the dolls themselves, I love them. I think, of all the new(ish) releases from Mattel, they’re the ones that really shine.
The BMR1959 fashions weren’t my favorite; there were a few pieces I liked, but overall they were a little too colorful and logo-covered for my taste. Thank goodness for Etsy.
Unfortunately, Mattel is prioritizing more “Barbie Extra” dolls.
The Barbie Extra dolls are not my cup of tea. I bought one and that was it for me. The dolls themselves have only fashionista level articulation, their faces are pixelated, and they come with some odd issues that detract from them further.
The Barbie Extra fashions are, again, really colorful; a few pieces I like, and thankfully none of it is logo-covered.
I think Mattel should marry the two – BMR1959 quality dolls in all shapes, sizes, and skin tones, wearing “Extra” fashions that aren’t sporting any logos – now that’s a doll I’d be really excited to see!
What do you think?
