Latina Billionaire Beauty
The official story for this doll on the IT website: Introducing Rayna's best "frenemy", Latina billionaire heiress, and top model, Alejandra Luna! The first trans model of the NU. Face agency, Alejandra will be the new hit of your collection, setting trends like no other doll ever has before with her ultra-edgy, high-fashion attitude!
Why “frenemy”?
Why is it being perpetuated that women who are strong, beautiful, and successful can’t have female friends without drama or competition between them? This is a gross Hollywood trope that needs to die.
I’d like to be able to praise IT for having a trans doll.
But, as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I can’t.
I get it. Companies want to get in on the action. It's hip to be trans-supportive these days. But where have these companies been the last decade with this? I feel that if they were sincere with this gesture, and it wasn’t a selfish money-grab, they wouldn’t have done it like this.
I expected better, but that's become a bad habit when it comes to factual representation, hasn't it? Perhaps unfair of me to take out my disappointment on her. I was just hoping for more of a story, more of a transition on display. I feel that this was a missed opportunity for NuFace.
In fairness, she’s undoubtedly got the well-made, quality body these dolls usually sport. The designers have done a very nice job with her makeup, especially her lips, though I’d really like to see these dolls look less like they’re about to skewer someone for breathing too loudly.
Unlike her “frenemy” (sigh, I hate that trend), this doll doesn’t have accessories that I care for save for the sunglasses and possibly her heels. I really don’t like the dollar sign earrings.
At a 160$ price point I’m not interested but considering how quickly she sold out it appears I’m again in the minority. Maybe I’m too picky?
What do you think?
