Fun In The Sun
I’m just going to say it: I’m terrible at sports.
Recently, some of my girlfriends started up a neighborhood softball team but they were shy a player to make the local league.
You see where this is going, yes? =)
Despite my many protests and demonstrations of being completely softball-adverse, I caved and helped fill the team roster. I was assured my participation needs would be slim.
”Just hang out”, they said.
”Just help us with the gear and stuff”, they said.
M-hm.
No, I ended up playing every game at the catcher’s position, which is to say squatting just beneath a swinging bat, with high-speed balls being thrown at my face, the entire game.
I don’t play sports, how do people get used to that overnight? I tip my hat to all the people who started early, because as an adult, it’s absolutely nerve wracking.
Still, it was fun trying, and even though we didn’t win a single game, I met some new friends, got some sun and fresh air and learned the rules to a game I never expected to.
I also managed to shatter a nail and nearly broke my finger!
It was still fun, somehow.
As an out of character note from the writer of Jacinda: this story is true - my finger, it turns out, had a hairline fracture! They’ve scheduled more games for the upcoming months (just for fun) and I may keep playing. Sorry about not photoshopping Jacinda onto a field, my photoshop skills weren’t up to it and I wanted to get my post up this weekend.
