Introducing: Socks!
This is Socks. I know, I know, such an original name, but I like it. Socks was originally an “Our Generation Andalusian Hair Play Foal”, making it a bit smaller than the full Our Generation horses, and just the right size for Barbie. You can find the full repaint process here. For a refresher, this is a before/after.
Today I thought I’d share a few more pictures of Socks and do a height comparison between the OG foal and and a curvy made to move Barbie, wearing flat sneakers. Thank you for volunteering, Moira.
I’m not sure why doll-manufacturing folks don’t aim for more size-accurate animals, especially not horses intended for riding. I’ve always found it odd that Barbie stands over a head taller than the official Barbie horses. It’s weird. Socks would actually be quite a bit shorter than Our Generation dolls as well.
I still don’t have the bridle repainted, or saddle at all, but I’ll see if I can figure out how to make one. I positioned Moira’s legs and feet as though she had a proper saddle, with stirrups. See? Perfect size for a riding horse.
I know it sounds silly, but after my hand tremors got nasty, I was convinced I’d never be able to paint anything, non-digitally (where I can erase and re-do), again. It broke my heart. Not that I’d done much painting, but losing the option is never fun.
I stumbled upon “Artis Opus” (no affiliation whatsoever) on Youtube and realized that dry-brushing with large-handled makeup brushes is entirely possible! I honestly don't think I would have even tried to repaint Socks without this video.
I know I’m probably not the target audience, this isn’t the target project, and the results are nothing like what that content creator could manage with such a canvas, BUT I’m still chuffed. I’m tempted to order a second horse, and do another repaint, wouldn’t want Socks to get lonely.
Thanks for reading and coming to say “Hi” to the newest member of our little clan.
I hope your weekend is awesome. See you next time!
