Capsule Wardrobe # 10 & 11
So far in this Capsule Wardrobe series I have styled my volunteers, they’ve styled themselves, and they’ve combined to style me. With this post, we’re mixing things up; I’m having them style each other. When I told them this, I swear I heard the “Jaws” theme in my head. Both seemed equal parts eager to style the other, and reluctant to allow themselves to be styled by the other. Perhaps worst of all: to be immortalized in pictures and forever plastered on the internet!
I asked Anne what she thought of Willow’s personal style: “She’s posh, but she doesn’t really wear color, does she? Her entire closet must look like an overcast day: grey and dark. And none of it looks comfortable, she always looks so tightly wound! I’d really like to see her in some color, something relaxed, that actually looks comfortable.”
Here’s what Anne came up with:
What Anne had to say about the style: “I love her in a pair of fishtail braids, combined loosely in the back; it just frames her face so beautifully, and softens everything instantly. Even in her regular outfits, this is a good look for her. I put her in my favorite piece from the capsule, the maxi dress. I seriously thought about putting her in the top as well, but knew she’d hate it. Instead I went with the cardigan. To make sure she had at least one item that was “her”, she’s wearing tall, heeled boots.”
What Willow had to say about this look: “It’s not a look I’d pick for myself, but it looks pretty good, and I really like my hair like this; it’s out of the way, but more sophisticated than a ponytail.”
I asked Willow what she thought of Anne’s personal style: “Color, color, and more color; she dresses like she lives on a beach in paradise. It’s not a bad look, just unusual for the city. And baggy, oh my goodness, I’m all for comfort, but it’s like she’s afraid to show off her shape at all. My aim today is to get her into something more urban and form-fitting.”
Here’s what Willow came up with:
What Willow had to say about the style: I decided to keep it simple with her hair, mostly because I don’t know what I’m doing, and I didn’t want to end up with a tangled mess. A simple, loose ponytail works on her. I put her in my favorite from the capsule wardrobe, the houndstooth slacks, and a plain white shirt. This outfit is something she could easily wear in an office setting, and most of the people in the city will take her more seriously. Because this is Anne, and she can pull off anything, I decided to play with pattern mixing and top things off with a rainbow scarf. She looks great!”
Here’s what Anne had to say about the look: “If I was going into an office, sure, I’d wear it. I love the groovy scarf. Maybe if the pants were a skirt…and the heels were flats.” She laughs, “It’s more comfortable than I thought it would be, though. I can see the appeal.”
Personally, I think they both look amazing and did a great job styling each other. Kudos, ladies.
I’d wear both of these outfits—in different settings, of course.
